• Cirrhosis is the scarring of the liver — hard scar tissue replaces soft healthy tissue.

• Cirrhosis is caused by chronic (long-term) liver diseases that damage liver tissue.

• Liver damage caused by cirrhosis cannot be reversed. However, it is possible to prevent further liver damage with proper management.

• If cirrhosis cannot be treated, a liver transplant may be needed.

MNT..

  • energy intake of 35–40 kcal/kgBW/d

  • protein intake of 1.2–1.5 g/kgBW/d.

Experts recommend the following protein intakes:

• 1.2 g of protein per kg body weight each day in compensated liver cirrhosis

• 1.5 g of protein per kg body weight each day in decompensated liver cirrhosis and malnutrition

  • Eat large amounts of carbohydrate foods. Carbohydrates should be the major source of calories in this diet.

  • Eat a moderate intake of fat, as prescribed by the health care provider. The increased carbohydrates and fat help prevent protein breakdown in the liver.

  • All patients with cirrhosis should, as a rule, be advised to use less salt in order to inhibit the development of ascites or edema.

  • Adequate intake of vegetable fiber or roughage

  • Regular exercise to maintain muscle mass

  • Do >> boiling, baking, steaming, microwave, baking bag , and pressure cooker

  • Don’t >>frying, roasting, stewing
